History of Petrino

It was the year 1996 when Ignatius and Kalliopi Varsakeli first set eyes on this unspoiled land full of greenery. At that time, the area of Afitos was not known to many tourists. Ignatios and Kalliopi were hoping to build a place that praised Greek hospitality and simultaneously highlighted the beauty of a traditional Greek village.

Petrino Suites Hotel was then born.

The hotel was carefully constructed with respect for the environment and with fundamental materials, such as stone and wood. Surrounded by lovely organic gardens with olive trees, fruit trees, and roses, the carefully designed stone pathways make you feel like you have been teleported to a small, picturesque village.

Having started as a family business, they are committed to treating and welcoming every guest as a member of their family, hoping to offer the most memorable holidays in Greece.

History

One of the most attractive places in Halkidiki where the town is built on a rock with steep slopes around. References to Athytos date back as early as the 1st century AD. Until the 14th century it appeared in documents under the name Afetos. The oldest part of the town lies around Agios Dimitrios church and along three main streets, two of which also end at the church. This city was a member of the Athenian Alliance, and was responsible for the sanctuary of Zeus Ammon, of Dionysius and the Nymphs.

Modern Athytos attracts many visitors, from Greece and abroad mainly because the outcrop of rock – on which the town is built-presents a variety of tavernas, cafes and shops, all with great views to the sea.
